Lilly Melgar is one gorgeous lady with her own line of beauty products. She shares that along with some of her secrets from her soap days on General Hospital and The Bold and The Beautiful and why she's now on her own "Soapbox" as well as, her role as Janice on the hit webseries, "The Bay".
Lilly you and I have a bit of soap history that goes way back and I love how the universe has brought us back into each other's life path. Why don't you share what that is and how you feel about that?
Yes! I did 3 extra jobs before booking a lead in a film when I was a teenager. One of those jobs was for a film called "Society" in which YOU my love were the lead! I was bumped up to be your stand in!!! I think that may have helped me get into SAG actually lol. If that wasn't enough, you were the lead with Billy Warlock who I got to work with years later on GH. I saw you and Ronn Moss at the Ojai Celebrity Shooting competition (my husband brought home a trophy for the handgun competition and I did great in the skeet! lol). Anyway, you looked so familiar and when I looked up who you were, it all came back to me. I LOVE life! I always remembered you because you were so gracious, sweet and kind to me. A great example of how a beautiful woman in the industry should treat others. Thank you for that Devin.
You are happily married with a daughter, how do you manage that with all the things you are doing currently in your career?
THAT my love is my greatest challenge. I believe they call it "balance" ;) ... I've had one amazing year! My husband and I put together the destination wedding of our dreams in 7 weeks on an old cobblestone church on an old coffee plantation on a volcano in El Salvador. It was truly magical! We even had fireworks if that gives you any idea of the perfection of our dream come true. This set many things in motion. When we returned, I continued with my participation on The Bay the series, won an outstanding actress award for my work on it, directed video content for MJ Cirque and Mariah Carey's AI performance, launched my own all natural bath & body line and candle collection, did some guest appearances on the segment "Soap Dish" for Planet 360 which lead to Martha Madison and I starting our own radio/tv show "Soapbox with Lilly & Martha", did a ballroom competition w/no dance experience whatsoever and booked a role in a bi-lingual film "Tongue Tied". Add to that being a newlywed and having an 8 yr old daughter (she's now 9)! My point is that I had "a lot" going on and it wasn't easy to do it all ... "well". So, I stopped for a bit. I needed to slow down. It was time to connect to my Spirit and get quiet. It is only in this space that you can recharge and 'focus'. I love doing all I do and am beyond grateful that I 'get' to do it. I want to enjoy it all and in order to do that I have to be present, focused and healthy. I believe this is the path to balancing it all and it's what is now working for me.
Your show, "Soapbox" is taking a life of its own, tell us more about how that is manifesting.
SoapBox with Lilly & Martha has definitely taken a life of its own! We premiered in the top 40 and 17 weeks later had reached top 3! Our ratings grow weekly, as are the possibilities for our show's future ;).
I love your character Janice on "The Bay" and would love to be a long lost relative of yours on that cool series, what would you like to see happen with that character?
Thank you! I love playing Janice. She is so fragile right now. She's experienced so much loss and can't seem to mend her relationship with her daughter, leading her to abuse alcohol. She's complex, vulnerable and caught up in one very complicated relationship. I'd like to see Janice more in her element at work where she is in her power despite the current challenges in her personal life. With that said, I'd like to see Janice find and 'enjoy' love. She's only known one love until now and it was pain ridden. She had a child when she was a baby herself. I'd like to see her get some therapy, heal and be happy, even if for a moment.
You have a line of bath and body products and your line of scented candles is amazing, please tell us about that and what more can we expect from that line?
My bath and body line is 99.5% all natural, with the highest quality ingredients. I created my dream line. LILLY MELGAR – actress, director, entrepreneur – has created a transformative and nurturing all natural line of invigorating products.
Lilly is first generation El Salvadoran. From an early age she and her parents would frequent their country of origin and other exotic locations. Her travels exposed her to captivating local flora and fauna. The landscape with its array of colors, scents and luscious fruits etched in her memory, the beauty of cascading flowers.
Those early impressions remained with Lilly; the organic oils from indigenous plants and languid summer days grounded her with a deep appreciation for natural products.
Discovering she had a flair for the dramatic, Lilly began her acting career at sixteen. After working for a few years and establishing her name, she landed the role of Lily Rivera Corinthos on one of daytime’s most popular soap operas “General Hospital,” starring opposite Maurice Benard and Ricky Martin. Lilly and Ricky became the first daytime Latin couple ever on soaps. After her stint on GH, she went on to play Claudia Cortez on “The Bold and the Beautiful.”
From her experience as an actress, Lilly stepped behind the camera to direct the opening video for The Spice Girls Reunion Tour. She directed short films shown throughout the Britney Spears Femme Fatale Tour and has continued segment directing video content for major concert tours and can currently be seen back in front of the camera on the Emmy nominated web series “The Bay.”
Her flourishing career demanded that she always look her best. Working in film and television requires long hours under lights, heat and heavy make up, which motivated Lilly to find healthy ways to protect her skin.
